Hi there

Kind Words is led by Ellen Eoff and Jennifer Himstedt. Both Ellen and Jennifer have been working in the nonprofit space in various roles since 2009, including museums, youth programs, and international aid organizations. Before collaborating at Kind Words, we both previously worked for nonprofit consulting firms. The model and services provided at Kind Words are designed to leverage our strengths to help mission-focused organizations grow their impact.

We’re passionate about helping organizations to connect authentically with their communities, scale their impact, and become sustainable. We offer cost-effective services like evergreen copy that can be adapted and used again and again.

Ellen

I have worked in nonprofit fund development since 2010. I have worked for organizations of all sizes and types around the world. Past development roles and clients have included large institutional nonprofits like conservation-focused museums, international NGOs, national festivals, universities, small arts organizations, education access nonprofits, and locally-focused sports organizations.

I have been honored to write more than 175 winning grant proposals, ranging from USAID and government contract proposals to small family foundation proposals. I have written the first development copy for many of her clients, distilling their programming model into clear, inspiring messaging.

I have written website copy, campaign solicitation letters, print collateral, cases for support, mission statements, fundraising outreach copy, sponsorship materials, acknowledgment letters, funder reports, LOIs, impact one pagers, blog posts, newsletters, and more.

I have also written numerous internal documents that are still in place at organizations I have worked with, including development plans, gift acceptance policies, strategic plans, board development training materials, and philanthropy team training materials.

My experience focused on partnerships, staff development, and community-building. Since 2010, I have implemented programs, provided grant writing, and created training across the nonprofit, mental health, and medical fields. I enjoy the balance of innovation and documentation for change management with process documentation.

I enjoy infusing organizational culture to build best-practices resources including hard-copy resources, trainings, webinars, recruitment plans, retention strategies, volunteer/staff handbooks, and onboarding documents.

I have also written website copy, print collateral, mission statements, blogs, newsletters, annual program calendars, staffing models, grant proposals, and funding reports for organizations.

Working with over 152 local and national programs allowed me to write for focused-topic and statewide implementation, continuation and community organization grants, outreach and marketing plans, curriculum, succession documents, community organization best practices, values-building reports, and program outlines.
